ars arcanum

Last week, Grimiku posted an amazing preview of the new items being added in Patch 2.3. I’m really looking forward to the new Seeker of the Light set as it is a throw back to the old Hammerdin builds of Diablo II. The new seasonal gem, the Bane of the Stricken, is finally getting added back into the game after it didn’t make the cut in Patch 2.2, with a little nod to our very own Westmarch Workshop podcast. In addition to the new items being added, some of the old Sets are also getting revamped, let the Wizards and Witch Doctors rejoice! Check out the full preview and video below.

Ars Arcanum: Crashing Rain

Books have often been society’s only bastion of light for passing along knowledge that would otherwise be lost to time or convoluted by the oral tradition. In order to provide new and old adventurers with as much knowledge of what to expect on their journey in Sanctuary, we created this tome of knowledge – Ars Arcanum. We will regularly feature a Legendary weapon or armor piece, discussing its stand-alone powers and capabilities, as well as how it may synergize with new builds or other items. This week we will be taking a look at Crashing Rain, a Demon Hunter belt that synergizes with Rain of Vengeance. This item was added in patch 2.2.0 to compliment the re-worked Natalya’s set that focuses on using RoV as your main damage source. Ever since it was added, it has been the BiS belt for DH’s who chose to use Natalya’s. Why is it good?

I remember when the Serpent’s Sparker was first shown at Blizzcon 2013. It was ridiculed, to put it lightly. People hated it because its legendary power wasn’t a flat damage increase of some sort and at the time Hydra wasn’t used by anyone. If you were to have told Wizards then that this item would be the linchpin of one of the most powerful Wizard builds

It may be an understatement that these mighty weapons have been to hell and back over the course of Diablo 3’s development. These weapons have been completely useless through most of the game’s life span up until patch 2.2.0. It’s now a completely different story, as Barbarians everywhere are topping the leaderboards with these bad boys. Today, we’re going to dive into just why that’s case. With

There have been many famous combinations throughout history: peanut butter and jelly; macaroni and cheese; cereal and milk, to name a few. While these delicious treats have sustained gamers for eons, none of them are particularly effective in ridding Sanctuary of its threats and dangers. Enter Focus & Restraint. These rings, redesigned in Patch 2.2.0, represent the type of power we deserve and need in this slot.

In the past few weeks, we’ve been doing a great job of discussing items that are currently used in the meta or have potential to enter the meta sooner rather than later. This week, I’d like to eschew all of that and gab about a fun item. We’ve heard the cries before: “Don’t put your World of Warcraft in my Diablo!” But then when they added Thunderfury, Blessed

A few weeks back, I mentioned just how strong the ring game has become since Patch 2.2.0 dropped. However, that was mostly talking about pure offense. While our next feature doesn’t necessarily stray from that formula, it goes about it via a circuitous route…kind of like a ring! Why is it good? “Is it worth the sacrifice?” That’s often the question posed to most players when they’re

This week’s selection is sure to feel right at home with you and your chilly disposition. In the Pantheon on useful Follower weapons, Eun-jang-do may just take the throne over past one-handed

Let’s take a break from rings for a little bit. At the end of last week, Season 3 kicked off and I saw my friends list come alive. It was interesting leading up to the opening moments, as some players were still having trouble deciding what class to roll in the 11th hour. After the weekend passed, I decided to take a look and see just

Our last Ars Arcanum saw us discussing the merits of the redesigned Obsidian Ring of the Zodiac. However, Patch 2.2.0 isn’t only introducing redesigns. If you’ll recall, there was a segment at BlizzCon 2014 rolled into the Evolving Reaper of Souls panel where the community was charged with the task of designing a new Legendary power to go with an item. Well, after much deliberation, the result manifested
