The holidays are here, but the Lightning Talk recordings from BlizzCon 2016 haven’t stopped rolling in. Today’s entry is entitled “One Couch To Rule Them All” and it’s presented by Gameplay Engineer Mike Hershberg. In this talk, he goes over what went into bringing Diablo III from PC to console and some of the challenges the team faced along the way. Happy Hardcore Holidays!

by Stephen Stewart on

With only a few days to go before we finally 86 2016, it only makes sense to start looking back at all of the great…and not-so-great things that comprised this year. Whether you achieved your highest Greater Rift during one of the many seasons, enjoyed the hype of BlizzCon 2016, or would rather look forward to a brighter year of less deaths, there’s probably something on your mind when it comes to Diablo III. Well, Blizzard Entertainment is right there with you and in a fun infographic that was delivered via email, we have the official tally on just exactly how many Hardcore characters have died so far this year – 601,875 to be precise. I know that I personally have contributed a handful to this figure (at least four that I can tell from my profile). How about you? Are you surprised at the number? Does this instantly want to make you play ...

Official Season 9 Preview

by Stephen Stewart on

Season 9 is a mere two weeks away, so it’s time to start organizing your friends and preparing to go all in for that opening weekend. Do you know which class you’re planning to go with? Are you ready to take down the next Conquests? If you haven’t given these questions any thought yet, don’t worry. Blizzard has all of the official information you need to help you prepare in the coming days. We previously ran our own preview of what to expect from Season 9’s Conquests and Haedrig’s Gifts, so between that and the below, you should have all you need to slay all of the demons come January 6!...

As previously mentioned, Patch 2.4.3 is likely dropping on the first Tuesday of January 2017. As such, the PTR (Patch Test Realm) should be seeing finalization and fewer and fewer changes in the forthcoming days. Yet, we are still seeing a few hotfixes coming up here and there and just earlier this week, a small batch went live for the PTR. Witch Doctors are the specific target here, although it appears that maybe these changes aren’t hitting quite as hard as some of the Witch Doctor players would like. What do you think?...

Here’s the next Lightning Talk in the series being uploaded to YouTube from BlizzCon 2016. This one features Senior Gameplay Engineer Stuart Capewell and Senior Designer Alex Sulman presenting on Engineering the Design of Set Dungeons – The Relationship Between Design & Gameplay Engineering. These two Brits go over the initial creation of Set Dungeons and then dive more deeply into the issues they ran into taking the idea and implementing it through engineering. It’s an interesting look at the iterative process and how some ideas can be great, but may have to be reconfigured or evolve in order to be implemented without breaking the live game....

The Lightning Talks from BlizzCon 2016 continue to make their way to us, as we now have the next one in the series – In-Game Animation Philosophies presented by Non Thareechit, a Principal Animator at Blizzard Entertainment. This is one of the lengthier talks so far, but for good reason, as there is quite a lot that goes into bringing the monsters, actions, and skills that we see and use every day to lfie. Surprisingly though, most of these animations have to be only seconds in length due to the fast action nature of Diablo III. For those of you interested in how all of this comes together, this is the talk for you....

With the announcement of Season 9’s start date revealing that we’ll be popping into Patch 2.4.3 near the beginning of next year, it’s clear that the PTR (Patch Test Realm) for the patch is close to being over and done. However, changes to items and sets are still coming in. There are a few new hotfixes that make adjustments to some numbers as well as Greater Rift mechanics. Check out the details below....

Next up in the Lightning Talk series from BlizzCon 2016, Senior Game Designer Zaven Haroutunian presents on the evolution of Cursed Events in Diablo III. His talk dives into the details on what cursed events were originally going to be – a sort of challenge mode – and how the twists and turns led them to what we have now – cursed events with chests and shrines....

Episode 106 – Yule Time at the Workshop In this episode Neinball covers all the lastest happenings on the PTR, some things to expect in Season 9, and Dredscythe’s amazing write up on the potential of Challenge Rifts....
