Upcoming Changes to Primal Ancients

by Hotstreak on

Community Manager Tyvalir took to the forums yesterday to give some details regarding the upcoming changes to Primal Ancient items on the Public Test Realm. Instead of just being rarer versions of Ancient items with higher rolls, they will now roll perfect Ancient level stats and only start dropping after you complete Greater Rift 70 solo. Perfect stat ranges will also be kept when rerolling them at the Mystic. Along with these changes they will also be increasing the amount of Forgotten Souls that you get when salvaging Ancient items to 3 while Primal Ancients will salvage into 15. Hey all, As we mentioned previously, getting your feedback on Primal Ancients has been super helpful. We’ve heard some really good points, and along with this, we’ll be making some changes to how these items work in an upcoming PTR patch. Rather than increase the power they give you beyond Ancient

Jay Wilson’s Twitter Q&A

by Hotstreak on

Former Game Director, Jay Wilson took some time yesterday to answer questions about the development of Diablo 3 on his Twitter account. He mentioned some features that were cut and he also talked about the art style. They went with a more colorful and vibrant art style with the absence of pentagrams and burning crosses to make the game world feel more unique. Source He likes the “dark and gritty” art style but also prefers to be able to tell whats going on and chose more colors for gameplay reasons. Source There was a dynamic weather system in place during development but it was scrapped for better quality art. Source Diablo 3’s engine is the same one that was being used for Blizzard North’s game back in 2003, even with some concepts and creature designs being carried over. Source His development team had a lot of creative freedom during development

The Future of Diablo: What’s Next?

by Hotstreak on

Despite Blizzard being fairly quiet in regards to one of their most popular franchises, Diablo has been generating a considerable amount of buzz within the past couple of weeks. With Blizzcon right around the corner, many are wondering if there is anything in store for the franchise and if Blizzard has any surprises planned or tricks up their sleeves. I mean, Diablo 3 has pretty much been in maintenance mode for a couple of seasons now and many are starting to wonder if this is the end for it, with development time shifting to a possible new entry in the franchise. So let’s take a look at the road ahead with what we know so far and top it off with some speculation (because who doesn’t love speculation?). So one of the things that started to get the community talking was a tweet from the official Diablo Twitter account in response to

Earlier today Blizzard released a very detailed blog about their design philosophy for legendary gems, along with future balance changes.  It’s a very good read and gives a lot of insight as to why they balance them a certain way. You can check out the official post down below! Introduced in Patch 2.1.0, Legendary Gems are one of the many methods by which players can vastly improve their character’s strength through perseverance and dedication. Obtained by defeating Greater Rift Guardians, these socketable facets of raw power grow alongside your nephalem with each new tier of difficulty you conquer. In Patch 2.4.1, we’ll be making notable changes to a handful of Legendary Gems. Before we get into those changes and the reasoning behind them, we want to take a deep dive into the design structure behind Legendary Gems. Gems and Their Purposes Some gems have much more broadly defined roles than

Five Features I Would Like to See

by Hotstreak on

With Season 5 now being live for a month, this is the time for the community to grind for sweet loot and for the developers to be in crunch time for the next season. There hasn’t been any talk from Blizzard about a patch 2.5 so we can only assume that’s what they are working on for a release with Season 6. So while we wait for more information, here’s a list of my top five most wanted features (Blizz plz). 5. Crafting Material Interface Shortly before the release of Reaper of Souls the Diablo Team talked about changing crafting materials from physical items into something that more resembles a currency, similar to how gold and blood shards are stored. I think this would be a great quality of life change for the game as it would free up stash/inventory space, which comes at a premium nowadays. This is definitely something that

Ars Arcanum: Unstable Scepter

by Hotstreak on

Books have often been society’s only bastion of light for passing along knowledge that would otherwise be lost to time or convoluted by the oral tradition. In order to provide new and old adventurers with as much knowledge of what to expect on their journey in Sanctuary, we created this tome of knowledge – Ars Arcanum. We will regularly feature a Legendary weapon or armor piece, discussing its stand-alone powers and capabilities, as well as how it may synergize with new builds or other item With this week’s Ars Arcanum we will be going over the new Wizard wand, Unstable Scepter. This weapon is a core piece to the Deslere’s build that has Wizards launching to the top of the Greater Rift leaderboards this season. Lets take a look at what makes this weapon so essential. Why is it good? Unstable Scepter gives Arcane Orb an additional explosion which does wonders

It’s been an exciting week for Diablo 3 with the release of it’s biggest patch to date and the start of Season 5. As we’ve come to expect this patch brought with it a host of new features and build possibilities, which continues the excellent post release support for the game. But do these big seasonal patches indicate something about the future of Diablo 3 or the franchise? Over the course of the seasonal patches, some big features have been brought to the table, most notably Kanai’s Cube and new zones like the Ruins of Sescheron or Greyhollow Island. Normally these are the kinds of things that you would expect as a selling point for a new expansion, which has some people raising their eyebrows. Some may think that these aren’t enough features to build an expansion around but, in my opinion it only looks that way when you look at the updates

With the launch of the next season later tonight, I thought it would be a good idea to go over the new Barbarian mighty weapon, Blade of the Tribes.
