Diablo Art Book Update

by - 5 years ago

In January, Blizzard announced a new collectible art book for Diablo that would be released later in the year. At the time, only a filler image was given for the cover, but Amazon has recently updated the page listing with a new cover that reveals some interesting tidbits about the contents of the book.

While none of the artwork has been previewed yet, we now know that the forward for the book is being written by Brom. Brom’s artwork has been showcased many times throughout the Diablo series and he contributed some breathtaking concept art for Diablo III. Even if you’re not familiar with his name you’re likely to still know his work, he created the original concept for the cover art for Diablo II.

Will we see more concept from Brom in the book? I hope so and I’m intrigued to know more about his thoughts on having contributed to the look and feel of the series over the last few decades.

The second interesting piece of new information from this update is that Chris Metzen will also be contributing by writing the introduction to the book. While most people in the Blizzard community know that Metzen was the head of story and development at Blizzard, it should be noted that he was central in developing the lore for the Diablo series. Metzen contributed concept art and worked with Blizzard North in developing dialogue and back story for the first game and wrote the scripts for all of the cinematics for Diablo II. He may have helped introduced and guide the stories of many beloved characters in the Starcraft and Warcraft franchises, but he helped create the entire universe that the Diablo series resides in. Since this is an Art of Diablo and not just Diablo III I hope to see some of the early concept art from the original game as well as Metzen’s thoughts on the development of the franchise and its future.

Be sure to check out the Art of Diablo and let us know your thoughts on how the book is shaping up.
