Season 9 PTR Preview: Haedrig’s Gift Sets & Conquests

by - 7 years ago

Last night, the Patch Test Realm (PTR) for Patch 2.4.3 opened up the gates for Season 9 testing. As is common with each new season, the rewards for each classes’ Haedrig’s Gift set rotates along with the five Conquests available for completion. I hopped into the PTR to see what we would be in store for in Season 9 and, surprisingly (or unsurprisingly), some things have stayed the same while other things have changed.

Haedrig’s Gift Sets

The Haedrig’s Gift sets for each class are as follows:

  • Barbarian – Might of the Earth
  • Crusader – Thorns of the Invoker
  • Demon Hunter – Shadow’s Mantle
  • Monk – Monkey King’s Garb
  • Witch Doctor – Jade Harvester
  • Wizard – Firebird’s Finery

Similar to the most recent seasons, the gifts are tied to completion of Chapters II, III, and IV of the Seasonal Journey. The sets that contain seven pieces will supply you with two pieces at a time per gift with the final gift delivering three pieces. You might have a slight case of déjà vu as these are the same sets that were grouped together when Haedrig’s Gift was first introduced with the advent of Patch 2.4.0 earlier this year.

Looking at them after so much time has passed, it’s easy to judge which class has the best deal. For pure speed and might, the Wizard is at the top of the heap here. Firebird’s Finery sees incredibly high usage in both speed farming and Greater Rift pushing. The next best off class might be the Crusader, as Thorns is a very powerful mechanic since the 2.4.0 rework. Invokers to start will easily lead you into high Greater Rifts early, although Seeker of the Light may ideally be what you’re looking for in Season 9. Might of the Earth also offers a strong Greater Rift setup for Barbarians if you plan to eschew the Charge Barb lifestyle, while Shadow’s Mantle can be quite useful in early group play for aspiring Demon Hunters that wish to fill the role of boss and elite killer.

Conquests

As far as Conquests go, there are no new ones available at this time, so as long as you have developed sound strategies from seasons past, you should be able to rely on your experience to down these. Below are the five Conquests available for completion in Season 9 (listed by their Hardcore title):

  • Speed Racer – Complete Acts I through V at max level in under 1 hour.
  • Avaritia – Complete a 50,000,000 gold streak while outside of The Vault and The Inner Sanctum.
  • Need for Speed – Complete a Nephalem Rift at max level on Torment X within 2 minutes.
  • Super Human – Reach Greater Rift Level 45 Solo without any Set items equipped.
  • Stars Align – Kill 350 or more monsters in a Cursed Chest event at Level 70 on Torment X difficulty.

For the most part, these are some of the easier/less commitment-driven Conquests that exist in the known pool. The majority of them are group based, so having a coordinated party will help to down them quickly in the early season, although all of them are technically doable solo. Speed Racer would require the most work and/or luck to accomplish solo, but I think it’s fair to say that Speed Racer, in general, is the toughest of the five listed.
