Kanai’s Stomping Grounds Are Now Open!

by - 8 years ago

The month of March is upon us and, normally, that means we’re looking forward to celebrating the anniversary of Reaper of Souls. However, players are now able to add another thing to look forward to as the Diablo III team has seen fit to continue honoring the life of Kevin Kanai Griffith.

For those of you who are wondering why that middle name sounds so familiar, you may have already interacted with King Kanai in the Ruins of Sescheron on your way to obtaining Kanai’s Cube. This area, quest event, and new feature were all added to the game in Patch 2.3.0 as a way of paying homage to one of Blizzard’s very own who unfortunately passed away in 2014. We now know that the tribute does not stop there, though, as Patch 2.4.0 also introduced a portal to Kanai’s Stomping Grounds, an area accessed close to Kanai’s Cube, but only available during the month of March. Nevalistis chimed in on the official forums to deliver some more information to those who were curious about why this portal was suddenly appearing:

For those of you who may not know, Kevin was a talented and dedicated member of the Diablo III development team who passed away in October of 2014 from a rare form of cancer. If you’d like to read more about Kevin, we included a short biography of his contributions to Diablo (and Blizzard as a whole) in the Kanai’s Cube preview.

This event is a chance for folks to get to adventure with Kanai one more time. We hope you enjoy the opportunity as much as we do.

I also put together a quick video to show you where to go to access this limited-time event and what to expect when you get there. Here’s to one more fight alongside King Kanai.

And yes…there are cows. MOO!
