Ars Arcanum: Unstable Scepter

Books have often been society’s only bastion of light for passing along knowledge that would otherwise be lost to time or convoluted by the oral tradition. In order to provide new and old adventurers with as much knowledge of what to expect on their journey in Sanctuary, we created this tome of knowledge – Ars Arcanum. We will regularly feature a Legendary weapon or armor piece, discussing its stand-alone powers and capabilities, as well as how it may synergize with new builds or other item


 

With this week’s Ars Arcanum we will be going over the new Wizard wand, Unstable Scepter. This weapon is a core piece to the Deslere’s build that has Wizards launching to the top of the Greater Rift leaderboards this season. Lets take a look at what makes this weapon so essential.

Unstable Scepter

Why is it good?

Unstable Scepter gives Arcane Orb an additional explosion which does wonders for your damage potential. It’s being used as the best in slot weapon for players who use the Delsere’s Magnum Opus build and is resulting in high grift clears. This weapon synergizes extremely well will DMO because of the up close play style that the set promotes as well as it’s buffs to signature spells.

Delsere’s Magnum Opus

  • (2) Set:
  • Casting Arcane Orb, Energy Twister, Explosive Blast, Magic Missile, Shock Pulse, Spectral Blade, or Wave of Force reduces the cooldown of Slow Time by 2 seconds.
  • (4) Set:
  • You take 50% reduced damage while inside your Slow Time. Allies gain half benefit.
  • (6) Set:
  • Enemies affected by your Slow Time take 2000% more damage from your Arcane Orb, Energy Twister, Explosive Blast, Magic Missile, Shock Pulse, Spectral Blade, and Wave of Force abilities.

When you see what the set bonuses do it all starts to make sense and you can see where the synergy comes from with US. You will mostly be using Spectral Blades to refresh the cooldown of Slow Time but AA still contributes to that. You also get 2000% more damage to you AA while enemies are inside of your Slow Time, when AA is paired up with US and the Arcane Orbit rune it’s damage is essentially doubled for each arcane orb. So enemies will pretty much be walking right into you and exploding while you laugh manically at their arcane infused body bits as they fly through the air.

The damage is so ridiculous with this set that it’s completely changed the group grift meta for this season. Groups are running three supports with the Wizard being the only damage dealer just so they can the wiz alive while they destroy everything in sight. Which has lead to the first ever level 100 grift clear. So if you like Wizards and you like making lots of explosions with AA, then this setup will suit you well.

Who is it good for?

Since this is a Wand, it’s only usable by Wizards.

 

Where can I find it?

This item can drop on any mode and difficulty as long as you have a Wizard that is level 8 or above.
