Ars Arcanum: Serpent’s Sparker

by - 9 years ago

Books have often been society’s only bastion of light for passing along knowledge that would otherwise be lost to time or convoluted by the oral tradition. In order to provide new and old adventurers with as much knowledge of what to expect on their journey in Sanctuary, we created this tome of knowledge – Ars Arcanum. We will regularly feature a Legendary weapon or armor piece, discussing its stand-alone powers and capabilities, as well as how it may synergize with new builds or other items.

Serpen’ts Sparker  has always been an item that I’ve kept my eye on because Hydra  is an iconic skill and a huge nostalgia trip for me from the D2 days. Ever since I came across a sword on open bnet that summoned hydras every time you landed a hit, it became an instant favorite for me. So when SS was put into RoS it immediately piqued my interest and now, it’s the best in slot wand for Wizards.

Serpent's Sparker

Why is it good?

Serpent’s Sparker has become the BiS Wizard Wand because of it’s synergy with the reworked Tal’Rasha’s set. Mammoth Hydra is the rune of choice for a few reasons as it attacks fast, does the best damage out of the other runes, and does fire damage which is the best pure damage element. Having two of these on the battlefield helps to proc the meteor’s from the 2 piece bonus which allows you to maximize damage potential. They also give you resistance to fire damage with the 4 piece bonus and give you 150% more fire damage from your 6 piece bonus for 6 seconds every time they do fire damage. Their effectiveness also gains a respectable bonus if you use Tasker and Theo for 50% extra attack speed since hydra’s count as pets.

Who is it good for?

Since this is a wand, it is only usable by Wizard’s since it is their unique class weapon. Also, this a great weapon for players who love hydras and want to push grifts.

Where can I find it?

This weapon is not season exclusive so it can be found on any mode.

The Fluff

Legend says this wand was fashioned from a fang of the original Hydra, defeated centuries ago by the hero Bul-Kathos. The great serpent was said to spawn two heads for every one that was severed. In order to defeat it, the mighty nephalem supposedly pitched the beast into a roaring bonfire, wresting the fang loose in the process.
