Books have often been society’s only bastion of light for passing along knowledge that would otherwise be lost to time or convoluted by the oral tradition. In order to provide new and old adventurers with as much knowledge of what to expect on their journey in Sanctuary, we created this tome of knowledge – Ars Arcanum. We will regularly feature a Legendary weapon or armor piece, discussing its stand-alone powers and capabilities, as well as how it may synergize with new builds or other items.

I remember when I first made a Crusader when RoS came out and really liked the idea of a Sweep Attack build. Unfortunately, Sweep Attack builds weren’t really a thing at that point in time. Golden Flense has always intrigued me as a good item for a sweep attack build, but there wasn’t any other Sweep Attack based items to compliment it. Because lets face it this item was simply not enough to make a build around it, until now. With the help of Denial and a reworked Rolands Legacy set, Sweep Attack builds are now the most popular for pushing high level grifts.

Why is it good?

It’s really quite simple, with enough enemies this item turns sweep attack into a wrath generator allowing you to take full advantage of Rolands Legacy and the SA damage bonus from Denial. Allowing you to power through grifts and melt away hordes of enemies. Using the Trip Attack rune on SA also provides a ton of CC when used with this build as it has a 50% chance to stun enemies for 2 seconds. Now I need to go into the real meat of this build by talking about Rolands Legacy.

This set allows you to reduce defensive/law cooldowns by one second every time you use SA for some extra survivability which, you can’t ever have enough of when pushing grifts. RL also increases the damage of SA by 500% and increases your attack speed for 3 seconds, stacking up to 5 times. This whole build gives you insane CC, Attack Speed, and damage with some extra survivabilty to make it the top build for Crusaders.

Who is it good for?

Since it is a 2-handed flail it is only usable by Crusaders and only useful if you are running a Sweep Attack build.

Where can I find it?

This item can be found in any mode as it is not season exclusive. So you are free to test this build on any character as long as they’re a Crusader.

The Fluff

Covered in delicate Skatsimi runes, the blades of this ornate ancient weapon are sharp enough to draw blood with but a finger’s caress.

Skatsim use to be the main religion in Kehjistan prior to the rise of the Zakarum faith and is now known as the ‘Old Religion”. Ever since the rise and corruption of the Zakarum, Skatsim has almost been long forgotten. But ancient Skatsimi artifacts still remain in the jungles of Kurast.
