Season Three Will Be At Least Four Months Long

by - 9 years ago

A topic of great concern to the community since the introduction of Seasons has been length. Just how long is a season supposed to last anyway? How much advance notice will they give us before one ends? Before one begins?

Standard questions, for sure, but Blizzard has been doing a much better job lately of keeping the community informed of their intentions. While the system isn’t perfect yet, when they planned to move from a month’s advance notice of the season ending to two weeks notice, we received a notice about it. We’ve been gaining more info earlier and earlier (much better notice regarding the beginning of Season Three, for instance) and continuing in that same vein, Senior Technical Game Designer Wyatt Cheng delved into the official forums to provide a short post stating that Season Three will be at least four months long. While it’s not definitive, it’s certainly more than not knowing any at all and suddenly your season is over after seven weeks.

While we’re on the topic of Seasons, I want to share some information regarding Season length. We generally feel that Season 1 was on the long side, and that Season 2 was on the short side. We want to strike a balance between having enough points in time when we can all commence this journey together, but also allow enough time for characters to mature. Expect Season 3 to be at least 4 months long. While the exact end date is not yet known, we plan on once again giving 2 weeks’ notice before Season 3 ends.
