Celebrating One Year of Reaper of Souls

by - 9 years ago

Today marks the one year anniversary of Reaper of Souls launching for the PC! While there is currently an in-game celebration buff, we wanted to take some time outside of the game to celebrate reaching this point. We also wanted to hear from you all out there.

  • What has been your favorite part of Reaper of Souls? Adventure Mode and all of its offerings? The new items and sets? Seasons?
  • What has been your most memorable moment in Reaper of Souls? Did you and your friends just barely clear a high level Greater Rift? Did you break open a barrel and find a Furnace?
  • What are you looking forward to in the future? It’s possible we might have another expansion some time “soon”, but the development team has also committed to continuing with patches for Reaper. What would you like to see added at this point?

We hope you enjoy today and the remainder of Season 2 while getting hyped for what Patch 2.2.0 will bring next month. Let’s see what the next year of Reaper of Souls and Diablo III has in store for us!

I honestly think Adventure Mode pretty much revitalized the game and it is easily one of my favorite features.

I STILL think shards are too easy to get (the ones that open rifts) and I feel like no matter what I do, I eventually get to a point where I have stacks of the things filling up inventory slots. In some ways it reminds me of D1 with the piles of gold filling up bagspace.

I am honestly a huge fan of the item rework and the dumping of the Auction House. I applaud that Blizz had the stones and willpower – and foresight – to act to fix that.

I think Blizz captured – or rather RECAPTURED – what made the series great when they made the changes they did with RoS. I still get rather giddy when I find an upgrade or an item that completely makes me rethink my current playstyle.

so yes, there are quite a few fond memories of RoS. and yes, I am rather looking forward to seeing where the game continues to grow to!

I’ll agree with the rework of the itemization in the game. I personally feel that it was the change that had the most positive impact to become what the game is now. In vanilla, it never felt quite right gearing up with all rare pieces…

My favourite change from RoS has been Loot 2.0.

M monk was my first character made when D3 came out. However, when I stopped playing D3, the poor guy was still in his mid-20s. After hearing about how RoS changed the drops, I bought RoS and dusted off the poor monk. What followed was pure slaughter.

He was geared in a very strange mix of Str, Dex, Int gear. Of course, that wasn’t so strange in the D3 days. You were lucky to get Dex gear as a leveling monk. After half an hour of continuous deaths in Act IV, I deleted my monk.

And rerolled another level 1 monk.

This time, with a nice flow of Dex items, my monk reached 70 without any frustration. And though since then, I have multiple 70s, my most memorable moment was dinging 70 on my monk. It really highlights how the change from D3 to RoS really made the game so much better.

Looking forward, I really hope for some sort of non-RNG loot drop, or a significant expansion of the Rune system. Despite what the devs say about the excitement of the drop, I don’t feel it at all. There are so many build ideas and possibilities in RoS, but none of them are possible because the coolest modifications to skills are found on items and these items are just too rare.

The closest concept I can think of are the Valour/Justice points previously used in WOW. You grind it out, in exchange for specific items, especially build enabling items like Kridershot or Fate of the Fell.

Alternatively, completely remove items that modify skills (like the above) and work them into Runes for the skills.

Anyway, thanks for the great podcast, and happy anniversary RoS!
