When it comes to making a great universe come to life, there’s nothing like a great Cosplay. Join me today as I sit down with Cyehra and we talk a little about Diablo, Conventions, and Cosplay.
DR: Hello there! First of all, thank you for doing this interview with me. Second, can you tell us a bit more about you? What is your name, how old are you, and where are you from?
CY: My name is Katharina i’m 25 years old and live in Bremen, Germany.
I’ve got a part-time job in product photography. I love to craft and wear costumes, playing videogames and spend free time with my friends. Ohhh and i love good movies.
DR: Your cosplay work is top notch, how long have you been working your craft? Also, when did you start doing Cosplay and what motivated you to start this journey?
CY: I started with cosplay in 2008 and a friend of mine motivated me to do my first cosplay.
The first time i used a sewing machine was around 12 years ago. I was so bad in sewing, but i never gave up. Crafting armors i just start two month ago.
DR: How many different costumes have you done over your career?
CY: I don’tย really know how much costumes I’ve done thus far. Back then when I started, I didn’t have enough skill and experience. So I don’t count my first years.
In the last three years, I’ve got better and better. Especially this year I have improved a lot.
DR: Well, even if you don’t have them counted, you must have a favorite one. Which one of your costumes would you choose as your favorite?
CY: My favorite is definitely my Crusader armor. I learned so much from doing it and every time I see the finished result, I get so excited and full of happiness.
DR: That particular cosplay was featured in the Gamescom 2014 costume contest, can you tell us more about that experience?
CY: As mentioned before, this is my first armor and my first Blizzard Cosplay. It was a premiere for me. And I was very happy that I got permission to participate the costume contest. It is a nice feeling to get so much positive feedback from the audience.
DR: How long does it take to put together a costume like that? It must take a lot of work to get something that polished.
CY: I worked for two months on the Crusader cosplay. 6-8 hours a day. First I planned to wear it in September for a convention called Connichi. I planned to work three months on the costume. But then I decided to go to the Gamescom and I wanted to join the Blizzard Costume Contest. So suddenly three months became two. Oh it was such a hilarious goal. But I wouldn’t br answering these questions if I hadn’t reached that goal ๐
DR: Are you a regular Diablo 3 player? What are your most and least favorite things about the game?
CY: Yes. I played it first on the PS3 on release last year. But with Reaper of Souls i bought it for the PC. Couldn’t wait to play the crusader class. I most like the choices of skills. It’s fun to play around and combine different variations. The story was well written and with Reaper of Souls the Bounty Hunting Missions and Nephalem Rifts adds more fun in farming items. The least favorite thing is the soundtrack. The best track in my opinion is the Malthael Boss Fight. For the rest i listen to my own music. And it was a pitty that the fourth act was so short.
DR: Did you play the old Diablo games? If so, whats your favorite one in the franchise?
CY: I never played the first one. But i spent a lot of time with the second one including its expansion pack. For me it’s hard to say which one is better. Both have their pros and cons.
DR: You mentioned this was your first Blizzard inspired cosplay, Do you plan in doing more in the near future?
CY: Definately, This was my first Blizzard cosplay but not the last. I recently started to play World of Warcraft. Yeah i know that’s late but you know what, I can play the whole content in once ๐ In the future i plan to do three versions of Tyrande Whisperwind, my favorite character from the Warcraft universe. One costume will be the Heroes of the Storm design of her.
Well, call me crazy but I’ll do a second Crusader armor from Diablo 3.
DR: Talking about the future, what’s next on your schedule? Are you going to any conventions in the near future?
CY: Crusader photoshoot in the beginning of September. I got very cool pictures at Gamescom. But the location is not so epic. The next biggest convention is the Connichi in Kassel from 12-14th september.
For next year i plan to visit a convention in the US. Haven’t decided yet which i should choose.
DR: Can we get a spoiler on what costume will you tackle next?
CY: I’m working on Diana and Syndra. Two characters from League of Legends.
ย
DR: That’s shaping up to be pretty good too! Now, people here will probably want to see more. If we want to see the entirety of your work, where should we go?
CY: The best place is my facebook page
DR: Anything you want to say to someone who could be reading this article and thinking about doing their own costumes?
CY: DON’T GIVE UP! Really, never give up. I never thought that my first armor would turn out like that. Even if the final version turned out very well, i had a tough time with some parts.
And if you have any questions about armor making you can ask me ๐ I’ll try to help to the best of my abilities.
DR: It was a pleasure talking to you, In behalf of the entire BlizzPro team I want to thank you for taking the time to do this little interview.
CY: Thanks, it was a pleasure to me ๐
