Bind-on-Account Items Still Trade-able over Auction House

by - 10 years ago

A post came up on the official Diablo III forums indicating that players are able to sell bind-on-account (BoA) items on the Gold and Real Money Auction Houses. The glitch comes shortly after Blizzard released version 2.0.1, the pre-expansion patch heralding the final stretch before the arrival of Reaper of Souls.

One of the major changes in this patch involved intensive revisions to the game’s “itemization” features and mechanics. This included making Legendary and Set items BoA–meaning players should not be able to trade them with anyone else except for those in your party at the time the item drops, within a two hour window. Being able to post and sell these on both the Gold and Real Money Auction House is NOT intended.

Jaetch, a player in Blizzard’s “most valuable poster” (MVP) program, made the observation public today, writing:

Legendary items obtained in Patch 2.0.1 onward are supposed to be BOA, but players are still able to list them on the AH.

This is what happens when you attempt to buy something:

You can click to buy and you will successfully buy the item, however, you cannot send it to your stash (assuming this is because the item is BoA and you cannot obtain it on your account).

Note: Yes, yes, I know the item is BoA. I attempted to buy it to see if the transaction could go through… and it did. First of all, BoA legendaries shouldn’t be able to be put up for sale in the first place. Second of all… okay, there really is no second of all, it should have stopped right when someone tries to list a BoA item.

This issue is specific to any Legendaries looted post-2.0.1 and found in a multiplayer game. If you find Legendaries in a solo session, they will be properly bound to your account and not even clickable to post on the Auction House if you were to attempt to do so.

As we wait for Blizzard to chime in on the topic, check out the itemization changes in version 2.0.1 on our patch notes post here.
