Microsoft showed off the goods today (or didn’t, depending on your opinion) with their next generation console reveal event, A New Generation Revealed. The debate on just what the new console would be called finally came to a close, with Microsoft ultimately deciding to throw a curve ball at the gaming world. No, it’s not the Fusion, the Infinity, or even the 720. The next chapter in the Xbox saga will be the Xbox One. Sure, there are probably some reasons for the choice, but for the vast majority of us, it was a confusing decision.

The hour long Microsoft party saw some big names in gaming take to the stage discussing Xbox One’s myriad of home entertainment features. Nearly halfway through, games were finally discussed. Diablo III would not be mentioned, however. Electronic Arts showed off the future of sports video games with franchises such as Madden, FIFA, UFC and even the often unpredictable NBA Live. Gamers also saw some footage of the next installment of Forza series as well as a short, strange video on the cryptic Quantic Dream.

A New Generation Revealed would ultimately end with a segment on Activision Blizzard’s Call of Duty: Ghosts. While not at all related to Diablo III, it’s worth noting that Xbox One will have first dibs on any DLC that might launch for Call of Duty: Ghosts, similar to the other Call of Duty titles on Xbox 360. Given this continued special relationship between Microsoft and Activision Blizzard, it seems impossible that E3 will not bring confirmation of Diablo III on at least the Xbox One, if not the Xbox 360 as well. In fact, given the pleasant state of things between the two companies, it seems a solid bet that gamers can expect some exclusive DLC or pre-order goodies for Microsoft’s consoles. With E3 only weeks away, we’ll have our answer soon enough.
